The new Ipad from Apple

Author: Ryan Gallwitz

Ok, I want one but I'm not sure I want to pay $500 - $600 for it. Although it would be pretty cool if every student had one and we no longer had to carry around all those text books. Currently there are electronic textbooks available that could be purchased and downloaded to the Ipad. Who wants one?

I think having an ipad at school would be awesome. We could use them for evey class, and they would be better than outdated text books. I think if we got them it would be really nice for our school but then again if someone was messing around and broke one, that could be a big issue.

There are many pro's and con's to apples new "Ipad". Pro wise, it would be nice to not carry so many text books around. I have so many books for college that my back back weigh's over a hundred pounds, or at least that's how I feel sometimes. So yes, it would be convenient to have one, but a million dollars is also convenient.
The list of con's out weighs the list of pro's. For example, apple is just making a bunch of devices that overlap in functionality. The Itouch and Iphone do the same exact thing, except they are just more convenient in size.
I have an Ipod touch, Imac, and Macbook pro, so I really have no need for one and i would feel more comfortable doing work on others. Why would I want to buy a forth item that overlaps in functionality?
Also there is a big hype about being to read books on them. Well go and by yourself a kindle for 29.95 on amazon.com. That is what kindle's are specifically made for.
So, in my opinion i think that these Ipad's are pretty worthless. I am a lover of apple's, but was very displeased to see that this is the new product that they came out with.

Also.... If people are referring to using them in public schools it would be a problem. Most homework comes out of text books, and I don't see the school letting the kids take them home. I mean I wouldn't trust most the kids there to bring one home. So yes it would eliminate the use of textbooks during school hours, but what about after hours?

In a perfect world when money is not a problem I believe you would see students taking home an Ipad or Itouch provided by the school. Currently, the school provides textbooks that go home. Wouldn't it be nice if the textbook could browse the Internet????

I don't think $500 is such a bad price. It's a little more expensive than a laptop, but not to much. But you have to be a mac lover/pro to use it. I would be so scared that I would break it, or scratch it, or damage it in some way. But I do love that book app. It would save alot of trees :)

Granted, the iPad seems like a pretty exciting piece of technology, but realistically what does it have to offer that other more available products do not? The only time I would really think that it would be convenient is in a school environment.
In the video you posted, the representative quoted, "it's so much more intimate than a laptop, and it's so much more capable than a smart phone". I think he means that physically you can just naturally hold it and use it, but the part about the smartphone really does not make clear sense. The iPad has no phone service. I think it would be much more convenient if it was talk-capable, and much more like a smartphone in that sense.
So in the end result, I see a hybrid of a smartphone, an iTouch, and an iPhone. But it's not the ultimate, it is just stuck in the median with no outstanding features really. Although, it would be fun to sit around and play with for a couple hours.

I think the iPad idea isn't much of a horrible idea for school. I mean all the money the school could actually save in the long run thanks to these would be tremendous. Students are always asking for new ways to learn and what better way is there than for a "hands-on" experience?
The iPad can however, break easily if not handled properly or there could be techinical difficulties. In that case the books we use now would be helpful. There are many pro's and con's to these type of things but overall i think having an iPad for school purposes would be a really good investment. Plus this is why coporate people make warranties and insurance.

500 hundred dollars is a fairly reasonable price. It has everything all in one. The ipad is just a step up in technology. It seems very convenient. Most laptops are more than $500 dollars anyways, so why not get an Ipad? Seems pretty neat to me :)

I think everyone should keep in mind that the $500 is a starting price and if you want a decent amount of memory you’re looking a few hundred dollars more. Personally I don't think I would have a lot of use for the ipad but I bet it would be awesome for people who play all of the games on their itouch. I'm with Emily about the breaking it comment. I don't want an ituch either because the screens are damaged so easily. With the larger screen I bet that will be a huge problem. Plus I would wait for the second generation if I was to buy an ipad so that all the bugs are worked out...
