It’s hard to believe that YouTube, which serves more than
1 billion videos per day, is a mere five years old today. The domain name YouTube.com was registered on February 14, 2005.
YouTube wasn’t the clear leader in 2005: it competed with a range of services from Veoh to
Vimeo (
) to Viddler and many more. Some combination of easy uploading, embeddable videos and an early decision to serve up all clips in Flash (plus, some would argue, lenient policies on copyrighted content) eventually saw YouTube emerge as the victor in the video battle. The company
sold to Google in October 2006 for $1.65 billion.
I love YouTube.com and visit the website almost everyday to listen to music and watch videos. I can't imagine what it would be like not to have YouTube. I wonder what the new thing will be in 5 years? Happy Birthday!
Wow, only 5 years? Seems like it has been around a lot longer than that ezpecially with how much people use it, and how many videos have been uploaded! I also didn't know they had sold to Google. Lucky Google!
It seems like Youtube has been around a lot longer than only 5 years. To me this is crazy! I use youtube a lot for listening to music. Teachers even like usuing it. Its insane how many people get on it everyday and how many videos are posted by the second!
I agree with Megan and Sierra, YouTube seems so much older than five years! I guess we have all just grown up with it... I don't see it going out of style anytime soon either!
It does seem that youtube has been around for such a long. I guess 2005 was actually a long time ago, 1,825 days. To look at the number like that it has beenaround awhile. I agree with Megan: Lucky Google!
Youtube is a popular site. I use it a lot for music. And you usually see teachers using it a lot for class. It seems like it has been longer than 5 years though. But i guess if you really think about it, 5 years is a long time. Time goes by fast and sometimes you don`t realize it.
Yea i feel like YouTube has been around as long as the internet has been. Its one of those things my mom even uses to listen to songs. I like how easy and accessible it is but i wish that certain things werent on it.
Youtube is great because you can upload original work to it. But what makes it even better is the fact that you can take that original work and build upon it. Just in class today Mr. Smith was talking about how the song one republic was uploaded on youtube and then somebody else edited the one republic song to something to do with government(which is why we watched it in government). Youtube is good, it helps serve transformational teachers and leaders needs.
