This blog is home of the 21st century scholars course at East Knox High School. Those who visit must interact , debate, and discuss events that are important to our lives.
I agree with him on several points. Something i would like to point out though is that most that have the money to get an education are to lazy to strive for one while those who do not have the money have to kill themselves in order to be even considered for one. And he does make a good point about us all memorizing facts when we could just text chacha or google it or whatever is the easiest and the most convinient for us to do but that would make us lazy. That would make us dependable upon technology. What happens if the internet crashes? What happens when crazy law suits make it so that we cannot use chacha or google anymore? And its going to happen. One day some crazy parents are going to sue google because thier child looked up something inapproriate and of course its not the parents fault for letting the child on the computer at 2 in the moring, its googles for not censoring.
I think he has a point in many ways also. College is getting more and more expensive and people that have the money don't try as hard as the people who don't have the money. It's not fair but then again life isnt fair. If the internet crashes and we cant use things like google, then we're in a lot of trouble. So many people depend upon technology and thats not always a safe choice.
I enjoyed this video very much. It is very appealing to students about our age, already having attended school for about 13 years and heading to college for another 2-8 years. I feel that East Knox is doing much of what he talked about in the end of the video; incouraging us to better ourselves cratively and apply ourselves in more efficient ways, rather than just "memorizing facts," by allowing us to take flex credit classes and in many classes they have incooperated new learning styles into the class room. Ex: creating videos. I for one, love to learn. I will spend hours a day just looking up new information. They way I do most of my searching is through the internet. It is a free way to gain access to information. People are starting to relize that by taking on-line schooling. You dont need a professor to teach you the information, there are many other ways of obtaining that information. And when you take on-line schooling, that is what you are doing, obtaining that information in a different manner.
I am an example of what this guy is trying to get across in his message. I learn better by taking on-line classes, than sitting in a classroom with other students taking notes from a lecture. It seems like there are many colleges or universities offering these on-line classes. East Knox is already ahead of most high schools allowing their students to learn in different ways! Thank you East Knox High School!
All students taking any type of flex-credit course must participate in the Current Events Blog. You are expected to discuss the articles and videos as well as comment or debate with other students. You must comment at a minimum of twice a week and correct grammar and spelling is expected. The blog will be updated Sunday nights or early Monday mornings. Depending on the discussions I may add additional articles later in the week. I will try to include current events that are important and relevant to your lives. If you find an article or video you would like me to post on the blog please email me at rgallwitz@gmail.com with the link.
