This blog is home of the 21st century scholars course at East Knox High School. Those who visit must interact , debate, and discuss events that are important to our lives.
I found it personally interesting to see that I became more familiar the latter the year was. This makes sense since I was 7 then and 17 now, but I also see how my perception of news has changed.
I felt that the large natural disasters were barely covered while petty political conflicts were more important. I think people need to be aware that we need to take action instead of arguing on how to take action.
I realized a lot of the culture stuff, like "fads" and what was popular, I was not really interested in. I love 70's movies and music, and it was reflected by how I never watched American Idol, read Harry Potter, or got Rick Rolled.
That was quite a review of the past decade. If your interested here is a link to 2009 in review with a comedic spin on it. http://sendables.jibjab.com/originals/never_a_year_like_09
I would have to agree with you david, I was never really interested in all of the fads. Maybe it is because most of the ones they showed in the video were from when we were pretty young.
Most of the political events were pounded into everyone's head. Almost everybody could of named 9/10 of the scandals or turning points in the election.
Although I will have to say that I see a great tide of change coming for the next decade for sure. I believe things will change more rapidly in the next ten years. It will be very interesting to watch.
All students taking any type of flex-credit course must participate in the Current Events Blog. You are expected to discuss the articles and videos as well as comment or debate with other students. You must comment at a minimum of twice a week and correct grammar and spelling is expected. The blog will be updated Sunday nights or early Monday mornings. Depending on the discussions I may add additional articles later in the week. I will try to include current events that are important and relevant to your lives. If you find an article or video you would like me to post on the blog please email me at rgallwitz@gmail.com with the link.
